OUR WORK | CAMPAIGNS & EVENTS

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month

Every April we recognize Child Abuse Prevention Month, a time to not only raise awareness about child abuse and neglect in Alaska, but also to support the primary prevention of it. By giving children, youth, families, and communities the knowledge, skills, supports, and resources they need, we can create a thriving Alaska where every child grows up safe and healthy. Because when parents and caregivers have what they need before problems arise, children and youth can thrive.

Join us throughout April and beyond as we start a movement towards lasting change - where Alaska’s children, youth, and families can thrive.

CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH

At ACT, we know that when Alaskans come together for a cause, they can do big things and make an impact in incredible ways.

We believe that by fostering positive childhood experiences and focusing creating systems of support, we can build a bright future for every child and youth in Alaska. In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, we are giving Alaskans the tools to build a hopeful future together.

Will you join us in spreading the word on child abuse prevention?

We need your feedback for Child Abuse Prevention Month 2025

ACT would like to offer some of our tools in different languages. What languages would be most helpful to you and those you serve? Let us know in the survey at right!

ACT is also in the process of developing a guide for religious organizations to take part in Child Abuse Prevention Month. We're creating a list of contacts at organizations across the state that are willing to review the product we're making before it's finished. Let us know who in your community could give us feedback in the survey at right.

Trainings

Each April, take time to learn what you can do to help build a hopeful future for every Alaskan child! A great way to help protect children is to take a training that gives you the tools to recognize signs, show that you are a trusted adult a child can connect with, learn about keeping kids safe online, and so much more.

Explore our training recommendations below- including pre-recorded talks, online modules, and more!

Darkness to Light’s flagship training, Stewards of Children®, teaches adults practical actions they can take to reduce instances of child sexual abuse in their organizations, families, and communities. Learn more and take the training here.

Grants

Each April, Alaska Children’s Trust offers mini grants to organizations to support activities across the state. This year, we’re focusing less on raising awareness, and more on how we can increase families’ connections to the supports and skills they need to thrive.

More information will be coming out in February 2025. Please join our newsletter here or contact us here to get announcements.

OR Make it extra-Alaskan by using frozen blueberries or blueberry jam to make pancakes and ice cream deliciously blue!

02
WEAR BLUE

Get decked out in all your blue- whether it’s a simple statement of a dashing blue tie or something snazzy like a blue feather boa, bring attention to it and let folks know why you go blue for Alaska’s kids!

03
CELEBRATE A CHILD

Ask a child in your life what they’d like to do with you for a half hour (or more!). Whatever it is- do it! Spending quality time with a child doing what they love makes them feel special and seen.
