3 New Board Members Join Alaska Children's Trust
Montean Jackson
Montean Jackson comes from an extensive background of working for the protection of Alaska’s children and families. Prior to her retirement in 2018, Montean worked in the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District as the Director of Discipline and Prevention/ Intervention and previously held various positions in her Fairbanks community, including her role as a Prevention/ Intervention Specialist for the school district and a Clinical Director for Fairbanks Native Association. Since her retirement from professional work, Montean has provided Mediation services in child custody cases to the Fairbanks Court system. She has also served as Chair of the Fairbanks Diversity Council and helped with local nonprofits focused on substance and child abuse, social services and support to children and families, and worked in local schools providing child social emotional professional development and training to teachers, counselors, and other school staff. Montean looks forward to helping our board cast an even wider net across Alaska and to continue to be an active and engaged part of the conversation in reducing child abuse and neglect in communities across Alaska.
Joel Isaak
Dena’ina Łiq’a yes ve’izhi. His Dena’ina name is Salmon skin. Joel Isaak is his English name. Isaak’s village is Ch’aghałnikt, Point Possession and lives in Soldotna Alaska. His grandmother was Fedora Kallander and his parents are Sharon and David Isaak.
Joel Isaak is an artist, educator, and lifelong learner. He uses the unique way the arts uncover understanding for working in an educational environment that combines a formal Western education model with customary traditional Native Alaskan life ways. Language work inspires Isaak’s artistic practice and education methodology. He uses multi-cultural communication as a medium to aid in language revitalization. Art has served as a safeguard for Isaak and a medium for generating understanding and communicating hard truths to a wide range of audiences to help facilitate wellness. Joel works as the tribal liaison for the State of Alaska Department of Education and Early Development (DEED). Joel is also on the steering committee for Alaska Children's Trust's program The Alaska Resilience Initiative.
R.C. Woodson
R.C. has over 30 years of experience in the IT industry, with over 20 years of senior executive experience in providing technology solutions to organizations. He has experience derived from a wide range of industries, both public and private. These industries include logistics, financial services, and the Department of Defense. He has taught information technology and business management courses at local colleges. Currently, R.C. is responsible for establishing, planning, and administering the overall Information Technology strategy, policies, and goals for Bristol Bay Native Corporation (BBNC).
R.C. is known for his expertise in Strategy & Governance, Cybersecurity & Risk, Mergers & Acquisitions, Server & Network Architectures, Distributed Systems and Enterprise Resource Application implementations. He is talented in efficiently creating and deploying IT solutions across many business models. He drives results and provides innovative methods to improve both IT operations and clients' bottom-lines. R.C. mentors and manages IT activities for subsidiary companies as well as the parent company. R.C. was the Spring 2018 Boardroom Events Midmarket CIO Award recipient for his work in solution selection and deployment. His company is currently engaged in transforming the business to adapt improving efficiency across the enterprise while continuing to streamline back-office IT operations. He also serves a board member of the Alaska Boys & Girls Clubs, Alaska Vocational Technology and Education Center (AVTEC) Technology Council and the Alaska InfraGard specializing in Cybersecurity activities.
